Get Peak Performance From your Vacuum!

Remember the day you first used your brand new vacuum and the performance was fantastic. Months latter you start to notice that those fresh vacuum patterns aren’t being left any longer.

Other than the obvious of making sure the vacuum bag is always empty and filters clean, here are 2 more ways to get that peak performance back! Replacing the vacuum beater bar/brush roll and the belt will help vacuums perform better. First try just replacing the vacuum belt as it typically will only cost a few dollars to purchase a new belt. Belts are typically made of rubber and with the heat of the motor tend to expand over time. A new belt is tight and helps the brush roll perform faster giving the carpet more action. Still looking for better performance check the brush roll brushes and they could be worn down. A new beater bar can be purchased typically for $20 depending on the manufacturer and will help your vacuum perform better.

Removing Green Algae From Vinyl Siding

Warm weather is here and its time to get your outdoor property clean to enjoy for the summer. Some homes in different parts of the country experience a green mildew on shaded northern exposed parts of their home. Get a bucket filled with warm water and either some bleach or simple green mixed in. Use a deck brush or soft bristled broom and brush on the solution. Wash it down with your hose or even better a decent power washer.

Make sure not to use soap as when scrubbing the solution on with warm water the vinyl siding expands and when washing it off with cold hose water it shrinks possibly leaving the soap in the vinyl grains. This will leave a chalky white film. Over bleaching can also leave the white film so best choice is Simple Green.

Sweeper Vacuums & Stick Vacuums - A Must Own for Keeping Floors Clean

Every parent knows with active children how difficult it is to keep your floors clean on a regular basis. Children are in and out of the home with dirt being tracked in constantly. Pet owners also know the difficulty of keeping your floors debris free. It's not easy and that's why owning a sweeper or stick vacuum is a must.

Stick vacuums and sweepers are vacuums that assist both homeowners and business owners in keeping their floors clean. Traditionally these vacuums are best when cordless though a few do come with cords. The corded sweepers take away the advantage of convenience and thus are not recommended. The key features of sweepers and stick vacuums are:

  • Flexibility as many typically allow for fine debris and large debris to be picked up
  • Light weight, typically weighing 3-8 pounds
  • Rechargeable, typically many will have rechargeable batteries or are wall mounted
  • Battery life of 15 minutes or more allowing for quick pick ups or a room to be vacuumed efficiently

Stick vacuums are extremely convenient as you simply grab it and turn it on to pick up a spill or vacuum a small area quickly. The two most important features to consider are the length of use and strength of the sweeper. Having a sweeper that is run by a battery is convenient as you can purchase typically an extra battery to allow for back-up when one looses its charge. The power feature is also important as you want to be able to do a good job. A good sweeper will have a beater bar that will agitate carpet area's to allow for good pick up even on thicker carpets. There are plenty of low cost sweepers under $50 that do a great job on hard floors, though not that good on carpeted areas. The three best sweepers that I've tested are:
  1. Hoover BH50010 Linx Platinum Collection Cordless Stick Vacuum - One of the best stick cleaners on both hard surfaces and carpeted areas. Long lasting battery of 20 minutes and low cost extra batteries available. Almost as powerful as an upright vacuum and great for the elderly and those looking for a quick clean.

  2. Karcher Cordless Electric Sweeper - Another great choice as the battery life is 30-40 minutes and the power is amazing both on floors and carpets. This unit is also extremely quiet and the battery recharges in an hour.

  3. Oreck Sweep-N-Go PR8000 Sweeper - Low cost and will pick up fine particles, though does exceptionally well on large debris. Picks up coins, paperclips and other heavier objects in just one pass.

If you've never owned a stick vacuum or sweeper and appreciate a clean area you should strongly consider. The convenience factor of owning a good sweeper is well worth the investment.

How to Control Office Odors!

Odors in the workplace can lead to an unpleasant environment for customers and employees. Opinions can quickly be drawn by customers of the type of business that you are. Employees are proven to work more productively in fresh smelling environments. So many factors contribute to an unpleasant smell. Garbage's not emptied, plants, dust, carpet not cleaned regularly, humidity or lack of ventilation, multiple different employees microwaving various foods and multiple other factors contribute to an unfriendly odor.

There are many options available for building owners to combat a foul smell. Obviously the best way to tackle the issue is with proper ventilation. Opening doors or windows if possible can make a great difference and is also a non expensive option. The following are some basic steps to help fight those funky smells:
  • Depending on foot traffic throughout the building setting up a regular schedule for deep floor cleaning. This might mean having hard surfaces cleaned with a good floor steamer or having a professional carpet cleaner come in for the upholstery and carpets. If you have hard surfaces a good floor steam cleaner can be run by most employees or janitorial companies. Floor buffers, floor scrubbers and tile machines might be necessary for some floors.
  • Having the ventilation system maintained at least once a year. Duct works can add to the odor in a building and it is extremely important to not only change your air filters monthly or quarterly, but to also have a professional clean the ducts thoroughly. Air duct cleaning is a must.
  • Having the office cleaned regularly and not just surface cleaning. Having a regular cleaning schedule can greatly reduce bacteria which in-turn feeds off dust. Bacteria does release gases that produce odors. Also by cleaning with a slightly damp cloth regularly will reduce the need for harsher chemicals that may be needed to remove built on dirt.
  • Consider having air purifiers throughout the building. Air purifiers clean the air for everyone and remove impurities for a healthier working condition for employees. Air purifiers will reduce dust, odors, airborne viruses and allergens. View Air Purifiers Here!
  • Adding a continuous fan fragrance dispenser throughout the building. Low cost and come in many different scents. They contain glycols which are proven to kill viruses, sanitize and deodorize the air. Periodically it will release a mist non-toxic to employees. Great for cafeterias, bathrooms and anywhere in the office. View Examples Here!

A healthy smelling workplace adds for greater productivity, less absenteeism and a happier workforce. The steps above are just a few that will assist in greatly eliminating odors and adding to a more pleasant office environment. For further information visit us here!
