The Unilux 3000, Vapor Clean II or Haan MS-30 are all excellent choices.
  • Upright Vacuum: Many manufacturers create a lot of bells and whistles to choose from when picking a vacuum. One without tools will typically last you much longer than one with tools. The Oreck XL2000, Sanitaire SC886 or Hoover C1404 are each very dependable, strong and long lasting vacuums.
  • Canister Vacuum: A good canister vacuum with tools can help both in and out of the home. You can vacuum hard surfaces, upholstery, baseboards, cars, blinds and so many other area's that an upright can't. Cleaning Glass with No Streaks!

Having streak free windows, mirrors and glass throughout your home is a phenomenal experience. Nothing can be more annoying than seeing fingerprints on sliding glass doors and after cleaning them away being left with streaks! All glass can be cleaned well if done the right way. Learning how to clean glass and using the proper products can help you have fantastic looking glass each time.

The best way to prevent streaks on any glass is to make sure to dry it as quick as possible. The longer your solution sits the higher chance you'll have of leaving streaks. This is also why cleaning in direct sunlight is not suggested as it helps dry glass faster leaving behind streaks. Cleaning in the sun can be your worst culprit for streaks. Likewise using the proper cloth towel to dry can make a very big difference.

Typically cotton wash cloths aren't as efficient as a micro-fiber cloth will be. If you ever watch window washers you'll notice they don't use rags at all. Typically window washers will use special disposable towels, surgical cloths or newspaper which cleans great. Wash cloths unfortunately will streak and spread dirt. Newspaper is fantastic and leaves a really nice shine. Micro-fiber mitts that fit over your hand are extremely beneficial when cleaning glass also and will trap more dirt.

The least expensive solution to use for glass cleaning is soap and water. Simply fill a bottle with water and a few squirts of liquid soap detergent. For additional strength and shine add some rubbing alcohol in the mix. Aerosol glass cleaners also tend to work very well. Aerosol glass cleaners often contain oil cutting detergents that break down the dirt and are streak free. Auto shops use them all the time to clean windows rapidly and professionally. Leave an aerosol can and microfiber mitt near your sliding glass doors, mirrors or in your car for quick streak free cleaning.

In summary streaks can be prevented. There is no magically solution necessary for the perfect appearance. Proper tools and time of day will assist in a streak free home.

Clean your House Tile & Grout like a Professional

Grout can be very difficult to clean. Kitchen floors, bathroom floors, tile on walls, foyers and so on are prone to build up of grime making them difficult to maintain. Grout needs to be maintained regularly with typically good old fashioned elbow grease for them to maintain their great look. For individuals who don't own a steam cleaner or steam mop use these 7 steps to get your grout clean!

  1. Sweep or vacuum grouted area in which you wish to treat
  2. Prepare you solution. Water, vinegar and baking soda mixed together in a paste form is a great natural way to treat your tile. There are also many other cleaners available.
  3. Apply this paste to your grouted tile area and let it rest for a minimum of 5 minutes.
  4. Take a grout brush which is slightly bigger than a toothbrush or a scrub brush and scrub the area with warm water.
  5. Before the tile dries make sure to wipe up the dirt with a nice clean wash cloth.
  6. Use a flat floor mop to now mop the area with hot water again to extract left over dirt and grime.
  7. Repeat above steps if necessary

How to Start a Cleaning Business!

Owning a successful cleaning company can be very lucrative and a great long term investment. Companies who provide great service and a professional experience for their customers can create a continuous repeating revenue stream. The residential cleaning industry has exploded in growth with more dual income families and the janitorial business has also seen healthy increases. Individuals who run cleaning companies as a business verse a job can experience great financial rewards.

Making you business legal and official are one of the first few important steps to be taken. Customers want to be assured when allowing someone in their home or business that they are properly insured. Most homeowners will demand insurance as will larger corporate accounts. The process for doing this is not difficult and will definitely assist a new cleaning business in distinguishing themselves from a non-professional independent company. Establishing your type of business formation can be done typically with your accountant who can also apply for a federal tax id number for the business. Determine with your accountant if you're going to be a sole proprietor, limited liability partnership or a corporation. Once your business formation is complete you'll need to register your business with your municipality or county. Businesses will also want to register a fictitious business name the company can run under which is unique to your business only. Once this is all completed you can now open a business bank account so customers can make checks payable to your business name.

To finalize the official part of your cleaning company you'll want to make sure to obtain insurance for your business. You will be required to have general liability, workers compensation and insurance possibly for your vehicle. General liability insurance will help protect you personally from losses should your business be found personally liable for damages. Bonding your employees for dishonesty will also assure customers you're committed to protecting them and also that you have run background checks on your employees as the insurance company will require this. Workers compensation is the final requirement that will protect your business if an employee is injured on the job. Typically these insurance premiums are determined based on a percentage of your payroll exposure. The longer you are in business and the more experience you get the lower your percentage amount will become.

Once your business is legally formed and official you'll want to establish a marketing agenda. A company logo, stationary, email address, business phone line, website if possible, estimate sheets, business cards and signs will all be needed. Vista Print is a low cost effective business to get all these tools for a low cost. Establish your target market and location to begin your marketing. Door hangers, flyers for car windshields and brochures with mailing list are very effective forms of advertising targeted homes. This form of advertising allows you to advertise your business to the area's you want to be in. College students can be hired cheaply for this and paid a bonus based on returned phone calls from the marketing. For house cleaning businesses large mansions might seem appealing, though they take longer to clean and you won't get the same return as you would in a nice average household neighborhood. For commercial cleaning business join a local chamber and networking chapter to get your business out in front of others. Typically direct mail or the internet will produce greater returns than a newspaper ad or telephone book.

Now that your marketing has begun you'll want to establish a pricing model that is competitive with the local market. Consider calling around to your local competition to see their pricing f or you to build your own pricing model. Have a few competitors visit some family houses for an estimate to compare how you can price. Listen to their presentation and try to ask a lot of questions to learn as much as possible. Establish how you'll price your homes based on the amount of pay you'll be offering employees, supplies needed to clean the home and taxes that need to be paid. This sum of all those cost should all come in under 60% of the cost to clean the home. The remainder should go towards running the business and profit for the owner. The cost for running a cleaning company will decrease dramatically as your customer base increases over time making it much more profitable.

Calls should start to rapidly come in for estimates. Make sure to purchase ahead of time all necessary cleaning supplies for the particular cleaning business you're looking to start. Typically a good upright vacuum, canister vacuum, mop, rags, sponges, brushes and some good chemicals can get you started all for under $500. Once your first few appointments are set you'll want to make sure to have ads ready to advertise for employees to be hired. Consult an attorney about proper employee paper work and local requirements. Make sure that you have designed a program for your cleaners to follow when cleaning homes. Train them in your home or a friend's house. Develop a system for them to follow that you can advertise to your customers of how you'll clean their home. Train your employees to clean this way and consistently remind them of what you're advertising to meet your customer's expectations. It is highly important in the cleaning business to consistently inspect your employees work to be assured that your quality is what your customers expect.

This was just a quick summary of the basics of starting a successful cleaning business. Cleaning companies are relatively simple businesses to run provided you always advertise for new customers, manage employees well and inspect your customer's homes to make sure they're receiving the best possible performance. Cleaning businesses have great add-on capabilities by offering carpet cleaning, tile & grout cleaning, window cleaning, laundry services and many other opportunities. Start off by mastering one trait first to build your brand as you will have your hands full in the beginning until you hire a manager to assist.

Customer relationships and service are highly important to establish a great image in your community from the start. The cleaning industry has great opportunities in both the residential or commercial side. Franchises and business opportunities are available for those looking for greater assistance, though many structured independents have extremely successful practices. In conclusion starting a cleaning business can be extremely rewarding and simple with a well structured plan. Visit us online for low cost cleaning supplies or office supplies!

3 Solutions to Eliminating Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are a terrible problem that terrorize homeowners, motels, apartment complexes, dorm rooms and all dwellings. These bugs are flat, oval looking, reddish brown, tiny blood sucking insects. Night bugs feed off your skin leaving bumps and can cause terrible allergic reactions. These insects travel throughout the walls of living quarters and are extremely difficult to contain. They can be found in furniture, sheets, pillows, comforters, mattresses and anywhere they can latch onto humans. These annoying insects are easily transported in clothing, suitcases and anything possible.

Detecting these bugs is not very difficult. Their bites cause itching and a burning feeling. Typically you will notice bumps on your skin and red blots. Looking for blood stain marks on sheets or carpeting can show a possible detection of bed bugs. These insects also tend to have a stale odor. Their feces are also easily detected on bedding with dark spots left from their body waste. A great way to detect is to place some strong tape upside down near your bedding and check the tape in the morning to see if any are stuck on it

Bed bugs are nocturnal insects and typically found in areas that people sleep. These insects also prefer a warm area and are found in mattresses, pillows and other sleeping areas. Individuals who travel are more prone to bed bugs as many hotels have infestation problems. Individuals who are also in the service business of going from home to home are more prone to attracting them.

It is strongly recommended that individuals consult an expert as they are hard to contain. Here are some solutions to try to contain or prevent bed bugs:
  • Steam Cleaners that release high temperature heat can kill bed bugs. Anything 120 degrees or greater will kill a bed bug. Make sure when steaming to steam baseboards as they can nest during the day in walls or tight crevices. Remember to have a steamer that can run an hour or more so you can efficiently do the entire room and surrounding rooms.
  • UV-C Wands such as the purelight UV Hand Wand are great tools. UV-C light will kill not only bed bugs but also dust mites. UV light wands are great for allergy suffers as they kill many things that cause allergic reactions and also are great for eliminating odors. Another great tool is the Raycop vacuum which has UV-C light and is great for vacuuming your sleeping areas.
  • Microban X-580 disinfectant spray kills roaches, fleas, bed bugs, mold, odors and much more. Microban works very well with a fogger puremist machine or spray bottle. A fogger puremist machine allows you to disinfect a room or even in vehicles to freshen.

Night bugs are a terrible problem that create a very itchy annoying feeling. They need to be treated immediately and with caution. Serious infestation of these insects can be very costly. Remember to react promptly, check often and try one of the three suggested solutions for preventative measures. Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.

Green Cleaning For Residential, Commercial and Janitorial Cleaning Businesses and Why You Need To Start

Cleaning professionals need to strongly implement some type of "Green" effort in their business for many reasons. Obviously its highly important for the sustainability of mother earth, though that aside your business needs to begin or increase your shift towards green cleaning. Over 50% of businesses and over 60% of homeowners in the U.S. make purchases based on whether the product or service is "green". Other studies have shown that over 70% of consumers are demanding better environmental practices from the individuals they spend their money with. Commercial cleaning companies, janitorial companies, maid services and residential cleaning services need to adapt to these demands in order to maintain and increase future revenues.

Green cleaning has become a bigger movement over the last 5 years. Green cleaning involves the products you use and the daily steps your business takes. The chemicals you use to the vacuums you use, machines you use, rags you use and even the way you wash the rags you use after cleaning. Currently there are no universal standard for "Green Cleaning". There are over 100 organizations that certify companies as green or have set some type of standards to follow. Green Seal Inc, CIR, EPA, IEHA and many others have set some type of policies for companies to follow or certifications they'll award to cleaning professionals. With no universally accepted policies your business needs to set your own policies that you'll follow and begin advertising this to stay ahead of the curve.

There should be no reason today why cleaning professionals shouldn't want to implement some type of "Green" policies. In the past the cost were much higher, though today the cost have been reduced significantly to virtually the same as non-green products. The quality of the products has also increased tremendously. In the past cleaning professionals were reluctant because the quality wasn't as good. Today many "Green" chemicals are just as powerful and effective as non-green products. Cleaning companies need to realize that if the quality is just as good and that the cost are now the same that the only risk is not setting some type of green policy since consumers are demanding it.

Here are some quick steps to take so you can begin advertising your business as Green.
  • Chemical purchases should have one of the many types of seals as Green Certified
  • Vacuums and other machines should be CRI certified for better IAQ (indoor air quality). Consider using Steam Cleaners as the clean is more effective and its natural cleaning.
  • Office daily procedures can become more "Green". Using recycled products when possible, using friendlier laundry detergents, using mugs instead of Styrofoam cups, using energy saving light bulbs
  • Janitorial companies can begin using more environmentally friendly papers, soaps and other products they use in buildings

Implementing just a few of these steps can assist you in beginning the move towards a Green business. As consumers are overwhelmingly demanding greener efforts when making a purchasing decision it is highly important you transform your cleaning business so you can begin advertising yourself as Green. The cost is the same and the quality is just as effective. The only cost of not "Greening" your company is the downside possibilities, so get started today!

6 Steps To Remove All Spots and Stains From Carpet and Upholstery

A gift from your dog buster, your 2 year olds spill proof cup that isn't spill proof, your guest dinner plate droppings present from your party or your kids shoes that won't come off after they ran through the mud outside and immediately into your living room! Carpets are prone to spots and stains in active households. This is a simple step by step process that you can use to get most stubborn stains and spots out of your carpet.

  1. Always first try to scoop as much as possible up with a knife, spoon or flat object. Lightly scrap as much of the spill up that you can. Don't scrub or treat anything until as much debris is picked up.
  2. Apply you cleaning solution of choice. Hot water and Vinegar are natural and great solutions or choose from your household cleaners. Spray the solution onto the stain or spot.
  3. Take a scrub brush or another tool to tap the treated area for the solution to take. Make sure to tap it in lightly and not scrub it in.
  4. Take a cloth towel and lightly blot the area in a taping like process. Again don't scrub to dry the area, just lightly tap and blot. You should begin to see the spot or stain debris begin to transfer from the area to the towel. Continue blotting.
  5. If the stain remains, repeat steps 2,3 and 4.
  6. Final step is to rinse the area with water (preferably hot water). When rinsing the water you'll want to blot the hot water into the area.

These six steps should assist you in cleaning most stains and spills. Remember never scrub the stain to remove it as this will only push it into the carpet ruining the carpet fibers. So the next time buster leaves behind an accident on your carpet try theses six steps to get that carpet clean again! View some carpet chemicals here!

4 Tips to Remove Carpet Dents from Furniture

Everyone loves redecorating a room, moving furniture around for a new look and feel. Unfortunately when you move the furniture around you also have to deal with the marks or dents left in the carpet from the furniture that was previously there. There are a few tricks that you can do to restore the carpet and bring the piling back up to look fresh. Here are 4 different tricks:

  1. Ice Cubes - Place an ice cube in the area of the carpet dent and let the ice cube melt. You may need to place more than one ice cube depending on the size of the dent. Let the cube completely melt. Once melted the fibers should start to rise. Take a brush or comb and gently rub it back and forth. The pilings should be lifted and look fresh again.
  2. Spray with water - Take a water bottle and spray the dented carpet area. Take a comb or carpet rake over the dented area and rake back and forth. This will loosen the fibers and fluff them back up again.
  3. Steam Iron the spot - Place a towel over the area that the carpet is dented. Turn the iron on low and iron over the towel for thirty seconds. Don't let the iron sit directly on the carpet or on the towel in one location to long so as to not burn the rug. Lift the towel and take a comb or carpet rake over the area to lift the fibers. Repeat this step over a few times and the carpet should look fresh again with no dents.
  4. Dampen area and blow dry - Slightly dampen the area you wish to restore. Take a hair dryer and on a medium heat setting blow dry for 30 seconds. Now take a comb or carpet rake back over the area to restore the fibers.

These four tricks should work and will restore the carpet fibers. Next time you're hesitant about rearranging your room because you're worried about furniture indents on the carpet, try one of these four tricks. Enjoy your decorating!

Cleaning Hard Floors in your home with the new Hoover FH40010 Floormate SpinScrub

The new Hoover FloorMate hard floor cleaner is truly a great product for homeowners. This new hard floor cleaner is not meant for commercial use, though does a great job for homeowners. The new FloorMate vacuums, scrubs and dries multiple hard surfaces. The brushes rotate in multiple directions providing great scrubbing action for many hard floors and assist in loosening built in dirt. The cleaner also comes with a collapsible folding handle to store nicely in closets.

The Hoover FloorMate is different than many other tools in the market to assist in cleaning floors. Unlike a steam mop which can do a great job in extracting dirt; this device will also vacuum up the debris that you're removing with the scrub brushes. One of the many new features added is the rotating brush which allows built on dirt to be loosened, though gently so as to not scratch the floors. Hoover has added a trigger control to the handle to allow for detergent to be released quickly for assistance in loosening any built in dirt. One of the best features is the squeegee which will assist in drying floors faster. Hoover has also kept the dual tank feature for the clean water to remain separate from the dirty water which is a nice feature when cleaning hard surfaces.

Homeowners can now put away the mop and bucket with this new device. It is almost as light as steam mops weighing just less than 14 pounds, but the added weight is because of the great vacuum feature which is a tradeoff for homeowners to decide on. Hoover has also included many free chemical samples with this new unit, though will only be offering this for the first few months and then just producing the machine without the free samples. Hoover will continue offering the FloorMate H3060 with tools for those looking for extra cleaning capabilities, though at a higher price. For cleaning of floors and scrubbing action the new Widepath SpinScrub is a great choice based on the early test. View the New Hoover FloorMate here!

Keep Bugs Away and start enjoying your outdoor living!

Step outside on your deck or porch in the evening during the warm season and bugs are always around the lights. Hard to enjoy the warm weather if you're worried they're going to come in the house or you can't enjoy your outdoor patio furniture. Shinning light attracts bugs looking for food. Spiders love outdoor lights and the next morning you walk out into spider webs! Here are a couple of steps that if implemented can significantly assist in helping reduce the bugs:
  • Bugs are attracted to blue and ultra-violet light. Try using Yellow light bulbs as bugs can't see yellow and aren't attracted to this color. The lower the ultra-violet color the less likely you'll see bugs.
  • Insects seek food and house animal's hair, smells and urine attract bugs. If you keep your animal out near your porch light or door, try to constantly clean the area and sweep away hair.
  • Fix all water problems near the house. Bugs love still water and it becomes a breeding ground for them. Sweep away puddles and remove still water from the deck with a deck squeegee.
  • Outdoor deck plants add to the comfort of the home but will increase the amount of bugs attracted so limit when possible the number of plants.
  • During Barbeques once food is finished make sure to clear tables and wipe them down.
  • Keep garbage cans as far away from the house as possible
  • Light citronella candles near the table lights as citronella keeps the bugs away.
  • Garlic is known to keep bugs away. Some studies have shown increasing vitamin B intake can also keep bugs away from individual verse those who haven't taken vitamin B.
  • Outdoor fans create air movement which will greatly assist in keeping bugs away.
  • For outdoor parties Tiki torches can be burned with citronella oil which will increase lighting and keep the bugs away.

Many of the above recommendations should greatly assist in helping you enjoy your outdoors more and not have those bugs ruin a good time!
