Do You Know Who You’re Sleeping With?

Do you ever wake up with watery eyes, stuffiness, runny noses or a headache? These are all signs of dust mites the most common indoor allergen. Dust mites are nasty little flesh eating insects too small to be seen by the eye and it is their feces that are a cause of allergies. Dust mites can be found in every home and are the largest component of household dust with over 50 million Americans suffering from them. Dust mites feed on dead skin flakes and love warmth, thus the average mattress contains 2 million mites within 6 months. One gram of dust contains 2500 dust mites – try vacuuming your mattress with black pantyhose put inside your vacuum wand with rubber band holding it in-place and look at all the powder you extract – all mites!

No one method is the best in reducing mites, though a few methods will significantly reduce them:
  • Wash bedding weekly in very hot water

  • Vacuum your mattress & pillow monthly on all sides

  • Lower humidity inside your home to 50% or less

  • Damp dust vs. dry dusting will reduce airborne particles greatly

  • Vacuum after dusting to allow dust to settle and vacuum furniture

Many products are offered to assist such as air purifiers, UV-C light and anti-allergen chemicals for carpet, bedding and upholstery. Call our support team if we can assist!
