Vacuuming Techniques to Increase Quality & Speed

Increased productivity and better quality can all be achieved with proper vacuum techniques. Always try to plug your vacuum in an outlet near the exit area of the room you are vacuuming. In a typical room that is 30 feet wide divide the room into two sides of 15 feet each. Starting in the middle of the room near the entrance start vacuuming the first half of the room in one passing motion from the middle to the side wall and back. Move from the entrance area across to the opposite side of the room completing one entire half. Once you reach the opposite wall from the entrance, begin vacuuming the other half of the room moving back toward the entrance. You’ll now be able to unplug the vacuum and not walk back over your vacuumed area. Make sure when wrapping the cord to do it properly starting on the inside wrapping the cord. This will also allow for a quick release to begin vacuuming the next area and not working with a tangled cord.

These techniques will increase productivity tremendously. Lastly consider a wider vacuum to cover more area in fewer strokes. Sanitaire, ProTeam, Hoover and Oreck all make great commercial wide area vacuums that are great for janitorial use & durability.
