What Odor | 10 Ways to Keep your College Dorm Room Odor Free

College dorm rooms unfortunately come with an inevitable odor. It is difficult to prevent a smelly dorm room when you move 2 or more individuals squeezed into a small area to live. The average size of a dorm room is roughly 150 square feet, equivalent to the size of your average prison cell, what odor. Typically dormitories garbage isn't as accessible as most would like, leaving unfinished food to sit in rooms longer than it should. Do you smell odor, well dirty laundry also doesn't have the laundry room to sit in like at home and adds to the smell that lingers in this 150 square foot room, not to mention probably no cleaning tools.

Here are a few suggested steps to take in keeping that dorm room smelling fresh and odor free!

1. Set a specific cleaning schedule and responsibilities immediately for each roommate before it becomes a problem. Setting specific responsibilities will assure the room is kept clean verse assuming the other roommate will take care of it. Holding each person accountable for their own responsibilities is much easier than assuming each other will chip in.

2. Purchase trash bags that are able to be sealed shut to keep dirty laundry in until wash time. Imagine the parties with cigarette smoke on clothes or stinky gym clothes full of sweat sitting in a room not sealed what odor!

3. Immediately dispose of all unfinished food that won't be consumed verse having it possibly sit overnight in the dorm room.

4. Purchase an air purifier for the room. A low cost purifier like the Thermax Air Purifier cost less than $40 and can make a big impact. It removes unpleasant odour, purifies, vaporizes, sterilizes and can even repel insects.

5. Have a stick vacuum in your dorm room. Stick vacuums are extremely convenient to use quickly, are lightweight and extremely quiet. Some of the best are the Hoover Linx, Hoover Sonic, Oreck Hoky, Oreck Sweep-N-Go and Karcher Sweeper. Each have no cord and do a good job in cleaning debris and dust off the floor.

6. Purchase some air fresheners and deodorizers. Time Mist is a great low cost option. Time Mist is the leader in metered dispensers and is set on a timer to mist your room a few times an hour keeping your room smelling fresh.

7. Purchase a good trashcan with a lid and not a can with nothing to seal the garbage. Don't forget to empty the can frequently also!

8. Purchase an easy mop to use to clean floors weekly. The Bona Mop is easy to use, less than 2 minutes to mop the floor after a quick vacuum.

9. Have some rags to clean spills. It's inevitable that something will be spilled and having something to clean it up will help. A cleaning solution to use or some water and vinegar mixed can clean anything.

10. Shower frequently. Proper hygiene from all roommates and guest will assure a pleasant smell and an odor free room.
