Spending the entire day sitting at work can put more stress on your body than doing physical labor all day. An office work area that doesn't have a proper ergonomic set up can result in back pain, neck strains, stiff joints and other bodily stress. Try these 10 recommendations to reduce stress on your body while sitting at your desk all day:


  1. Tempting to multi-task and answer the phone while typing, resting the phone on your shoulder while tilting your head is not good. Consider a headset.
  2. Poor Lighting in your office can cause strain on your eyes and long term negative consequences. Consider a monitor filter or blinds to block out sunlight.
  3. A comfortable ergonomic chair can relieve much stress from your body while sitting all day. Lower back support is essential while sitting all day putting pressure on it.
  4. An efficient desk that fits your requirements is important. Paper work should be kept in proper document holders and everything should be within reach so as to reduce awkward leaning to reach paper work.
  5. Keyboard should be an ergonomic design to allow for comfortable typing all day. Poor posture or typing position can cause carpal tunnel. Keep your wrist elevated when typing and consider possibly a keyboard tray.
  6. Under your desk keep it clutter free to avoid cramping your legs. Consider a footrest to elevate your feet during the day as this will reduce lower back pain.

  8. If you're using a laptop all day at a desk consider purchasing separately a wireless keypad that has ergonomic design. Laptops don't typically have an ergonomic design and in-turn can cause wrist and back pain. A wireless keypad can mouse can greatly reduce the body stress.
  9. Consider a monitor adjustment device. This type of tool will allow you to tilt, raise, move left to right or lower your monitor to a comfortable level. Looking at a screen in the same position all day is not good and this can type of device can make all the difference.
